Privacy Policy

This policy covers telescopesetup.com. The short version: we collect as little as the site can function on, we do not sell anything to anybody, and the only data that identifies you personally is what you type into a form yourself.

What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get read and which calculators get used. It records the pages you visit, roughly where in the world you are, your device type and browser, and how you arrived. It does not record your name, your email address or anything that identifies you personally. IP addresses are anonymised by Google before they reach us, and we cannot see individual visitors.

We also record an event when an outbound affiliate link is clicked, which tells us which products readers are interested in. That event carries the product identifier, the link text and the page it happened on. It does not carry anything about you.

The contact form

Your name, email address and message go to our inbox through FormSubmit, a third party form relay. That address is used to reply to you. It is not added to any list from that form, is not sold, and is not shared with anybody.

The email list

If you ask us to email you one of the complete builds, we store the address you type and a note of which page you submitted it from, using Google Forms. That is used to send the list you asked for and occasional related material. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you.

What we never do

• Sell, rent or trade your personal data to anybody, for any purpose.
• Add an address to a mailing list because you used the contact form.
• Ask for payment details. Nothing is sold on this site.
• Ask for or store any special category data.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. Amazon may set cookies when you follow an affiliate link, which is how a purchase is attributed to this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will work normally without them, though the calculators will not remember anything between visits because they do not store anything anyway.

Third parties

Data reaches: Google, for analytics; Google Forms, for the email list; FormSubmit, for the contact form; Amazon, when you follow an affiliate link; and Cloudflare, which serves the site and processes requests in the ordinary course of delivering pages. Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with what it receives.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to its processing. In practice the only personal data we hold is an email address you gave us. Write in through the contact page and it is deleted.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has submitted personal information here, contact us and it will be removed.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will appear here with a new date. Any change applies from the date it is posted.
