Dwarf 3 or ZWO Seestar S30 Pro?
The Dwarf 3 is lighter, cheaper and more useful in daytime. The Seestar has apochromatic optics, built in light pollution filtering and a larger community producing tutorials. If you travel, take the Dwarf. If you image mostly from a light polluted garden, take the Seestar.
Can the Dwarf 3 photograph planets?
Not usefully. The focal length is short and the aperture small, so planets come out as small bright discs with little detail. Smart telescopes in this class are built for wide deep sky targets. Planetary imaging needs long focal length, which is a different instrument entirely.
Does it need an internet connection?
The device itself operates over its own connection to your phone. The one touch cloud processing needs internet, so at a remote site you would capture first and process when you are back in range. You can also save raw files and process them yourself in standard astrophotography software.
Is a smart telescope real astronomy?
It is real astrophotography, and the images are of real photons that really landed on a sensor. What it is not is observing, because there is no eyepiece. Both are legitimate, and the mistake is buying one while wanting the other.
What can you actually image with 3 lb of telescope?
Large bright deep sky targets do best: the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, the North America Nebula, big open clusters. Small faint galaxies are beyond it.
